Alabama Patent of the Month – March 2025

Enveloc, Inc. has introduced a breakthrough in data security with a patented system designed to securely store and retrieve encryption keys—eliminating one of the biggest risks in cloud-based data protection.

The innovation tackles a common but critical issue: losing access to the encryption key used to protect cloud backups or sensitive digital assets. Enveloc’s method encrypts the encryption key itself, then splits the resulting cipher text into two distinct segments. These segments are sent to separate storage servers located in different geographic regions, enhancing both resilience and security. Each segment is transmitted via secure email protocols and tagged with an identifying value, enabling fast and reliable reconstruction when needed.

Unlike traditional systems that store keys alongside encrypted data or in a single location, this approach ensures that even if one server is compromised, the key remains inaccessible without its counterpart. The use of symmetrical encryption and equal-size segment distribution further protects against unauthorized access.

This secure, automated method supports immediate access to encryption keys—critical during data recovery—while safeguarding against disasters, hardware failure, or administrative errors. Because it works within existing email infrastructure, it can be easily integrated into corporate or personal data backup workflows.

As the digital world continues to expand, Enveloc’s innovation offers a smarter, more secure way to protect the keys to your most important data—literally.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
