Arizona Patent of the Month – April 2021
Hyperhidrosis is abnormally excessive sweating that’s not necessarily related to heat or exercise. It can be caused from overactive sweat glands which are present in the underarms, palms, sole and so on. Those afflicted with this condition often try chemical antiperspirants or deodorants which block sweat glands and minimize odor. Unfortunately, they can also cause irritation. Other methods, such as botox are available, but have their own limitations as well. Guided Therapy Systems, LLC has introduced a new system using ultrasound therapy.
Guided Therapy Systems aims to use ultrasound technologies for new and effective treatment options. They believe that ultrasound will reduce downtime and complications associated with many traditional, invasive procedures. This system provides a non-invasive treatment option wherein ultrasound energy is delivered to the targeted sweat gland region. First, ultrasound images are taken to build a map of the sweat glands and determine the required depth, placement, and frequency needed. Then, ultrasound energy is applied and results in thermal ablation of the sweat glands. This non-invasive procedure offers a more selective ablation process, so that only the desired target is affected. The surrounding healthy tissue aids in rapid recovery.
Are you redesigning existing technology for a new application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
