Arkansas Patent of the Month – September 2022

Pyrolysis is a process of heating organic material in the absence of oxygen. This is a common technique used to convert plastic waste into energy. Duke Technologies, LLC, an international provider of advanced technologies, has designed a pyrolysis reactor system which uses feedstock as the reactants.

Duke Technologies’ solution uses an eductor condenser unit which communicates with the pyrolysis reactor. This combination allows the system to condense the pyrolysis gasses. This eductor condenser unit receives pressurized coolant fluids and the pyrolysis gasses. The flow path of each input fluid intersects, combining the fluids. This combined fluid is then discharged into a mixing chamber where the gasses are condensed. The final product has fewer impurities than traditionally achieved. The renewable sources – feedstock – are successfully converted into hydrocarbons identical to those found in diesel or gasoline. Testing has shown they meet all existing fuel specifications and are fully compatible with the current energy market.

Duke Technologies is focused on developing the technologies needed for clean energy. As the world population increases, so does the demand for transportation fuels and power. Their pyrolysis reactor falls in line with this mission, as the company strives to meet concerns surrounding greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. The development of fuel from clean sources – feedstock in this case – could prove to be an important element in meeting the energy requirements of the future.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
