Colorado Patent of the Month – April 2023

Immunotherapy has been one of the most cost-effective measures for the prevention and treatment of diseases. However, the need for safe and effective immunotherapy strategies and adjuvants for various diseases remains urgent. GlobeImmune, Inc. is a biotechnology company that has been developing immunotherapeutic compositions that are designed to elicit a cellular immune response. The company aims to treat cancer, viral diseases, and other disorders of the immune system by providing a new form of immunotherapy that stimulates the body’s immune system to attack cancer cells and pathogens.

GlobeImmune has made a significant breakthrough in cancer immunotherapy by designing target-specific anti-cancer agents that have high selectivity against specific targets in cancer cells. One of their most promising products is an immunotherapy composition composed of a recombinant vaccinia virus and a yeast vehicle.

The recombinant vaccinia virus used in the immunotherapy composition encodes a  costimulatory molecule and nucleic acid sequence encoding cancer antigens. Additionally, the composition also comprises a yeast vehicle comprising at least one cancer antigen or immunogenic domain thereof. These two components are administered concurrently to the individual, eliciting a cell-mediated immune response against cancer cells.

GlobeImmune is focused on pioneering cancer immunotherapy through innovative research and development. Their commitment to developing safe and effective immunotherapy strategies and adjuvants for cancer, viral diseases, and other disorders of the immune system has the potential to transform the field of medicine.
