Colorado Patent of the Month – July 2024
BioIntelliSense, Inc. has developed a new wearable vital signs monitor that leverages advanced polychromatic light technology to enhance patient care. This innovative system comprises a remote device connected to a communications network and a wearable device that communicates with the remote device. The wearable is designed to be in contact with the patient’s body, where it can determine various vital signs. The core of this device includes a polychromatic light source, a spectral sensor, additional sensors, a processor, and a non-transitory computer-readable medium with executable instructions.
The process begins with the polychromatic light source illuminating perfused tissue on the patient’s body. The spectral sensor then captures the resultant signal, which is analyzed to determine its spectral properties, such as light power measurement. These measurements are compared against a lookup table that correlates specific spectral properties with vital signs like blood oxygen levels and heart rate. The device adjusts the lookup table based on context input from other sensors, ensuring precise readings regardless of whether the light source is illuminating the wrist, palm, chest, or forehead.
This wearable monitor can be configured as a wristband, glove, headband, or attachable device with adhesive, offering versatility for various medical scenarios. The device continuously transmits the patient’s vital signs to the remote device, enabling real-time monitoring and immediate response. This cutting-edge technology represents a significant leap forward in non-invasive medical diagnostics, providing reliable and accurate health monitoring solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into everyday life. BioIntelliSense’s innovation promises to revolutionize patient care, making continuous health monitoring more accessible and efficient.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
