Colorado Patent of the Month – May 2025

Dynexus Technology Inc. has secured a new U.S. patent that could transform battery health monitoring in electric vehicles and grid storage. U.S. Patent No. 12306125, titled ‘Multispectral impedance measurements across strings of interconnected cells’, enables real-time diagnostics of individual battery cells—even during high-speed charging.

Smarter, faster battery diagnostics

The innovation introduces a switchable network that performs impedance measurements across specific cells in a battery pack. It isolates and tests cells under normal operating conditions, identifying degradation or failure early without needing to take the system offline.

This method allows operators to monitor critical data—such as voltage, current, and temperature—alongside impedance, offering a richer, more accurate view of cell health. It’s designed for integration into everyday operations without affecting performance.

Real-world impact

By enabling predictive maintenance, this technology reduces downtime, boosts safety, and extends battery lifespan. It supports a range of applications, including EV fleets, renewable energy storage, and industrial systems where reliability is critical.

The system builds on Dynexus’s iRIS® platform and works across different battery chemistries. Its scalability and adaptability position it as a key advancement in next-generation battery intelligence.

Next steps in battery intelligence

As electrification expands, the need for smarter, embedded diagnostics is growing. Dynexus’s patent delivers a practical, high-impact solution—helping manufacturers and energy operators make data-driven decisions to optimize performance and safety.
