Florida Patent of the Month – December 2021
SeaSucker, LLC has had a windy history, starting with design and manufacturing of marine accessories using their innovative vacuum mount technology. After some time, they realized this vacuum mount tech could be used for other applications – including bike racks. Once a bike could be securely racked to a car and driven around at 140 mph, they moved on to surfboards, paddle boards, and kayak racks.
Recently, they have designed a smaller version. This vacuum mounted carrier has a smaller footprint which not only reduces the space needed, but also the energy needed to operate. The smaller size is also more easily stored. These mounting systems can be easily put in place and removed, and work with any car type. This means you can stick them on a rental car, or switch between vehicles as needed.
Their design can effectively mate to a recreational article – like a bike or surfboard and so on. The vacuum device has a pad shaped and sized properly to detachably seat with the vehicle. This is what forms the vacuum cavity. A plunger joined at the pad communicates with the cavity. An indicator on the plunger can be used to set the vacuum pressure within the cavity to ensure the mount force is secure. The design can be slightly modified, adding in front, rear, and side support bars to increase the security of the mount, creating a race-ready carrier rack system.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
