Florida Patent of the Month – June 2022

The interactions between bonds in water is complex. The addition of other non-water substances only exacerbates this complexity and changes in the composition can lead to new and unpredictable properties. However, the interactions of these bonds impact the water’s bioavailability. A reduction in bioavailability can make a glass of water less hydrating – a feature nobody wants. Hydrosome Holdings, LLC has designed a method of achieving ultrapure water compositions, which can be used in recipes, beverages, and more.

Water is combined with the desired additional components and processed using a higher flow rate. The aqueous solution is ejected from a jet opening at this high flow rate into a hollow cylinder. This reduces the size of the ultrapure water clusters within the solution, ensuring that there are no clusters greater than 300 nanometers.

The ultrapure water has a greater bioavailability, allowing for improved hydration when consumed. This ultrapure water composition ensures the water molecule clusters are arranged in a stable manner suited to their new nano-size range. Then, when added to food or other beverages, this composition creates a more efficient cellular delivery system, allowing the body to uptake nutritional agents with ease.

In one example, a sports drink can be formulated using this method and ultrapure water. The water can be combined with the rest of the formulation (eg. electrolytes, sugar etc.), passed through the jet nozzles and the final product is more hydrating than ever.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
