Florida Patent of the Month – October 2021

Augmented reality (AR) enhances the real world with digital visual elements, sounds, or sensory stimuli using technology. With so much potential, it’s no surprise that we are seeing a rise in innovation and applications of AR in different industries. As a pioneer in electronic lens modulation, e-Vision Smart Optics, Inc.’s technology is one way to make AR more accessible.

e-Vision has developed a near eye display which aligns with a micro-lens to allow the user see the real world while still engaging with the technology. The device has a switchable micro-lens array with electronic enabled micro-lenses. When pixels of the near eye display are lit, the micro-lenses are present and therefore seen by the user. When unlit, the user sees the real image with no technology overlaid.

When light penetrates the micro-lenses it causes a loss of clarity and contrast of the AR image. To overcome this, e-Vision designed the near eye display to synchronize with the electronic enable micro-lenses at such a speed that it blends the virtual image with the real image creating the ultimate mixed or augmented reality. E-Vision believes that its technology will have a transformative influence on the complex lens systems required to bring what can be imagined to reality.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
