Georgia Patent of the Month – June 2021

Assurant Design Automation, LLC. have recently worked on developing their Logic Design Tool (LDT) which is a graphical aid for analyzing, modeling and implementing digital control systems. Their method encodes a logic design as a linear array with multiple logic states.

The LDT specifies inputs, conditions, actions, outputs, and states as well as process flows. The LDT can then calculate a combination map for a state of transition between the start and end state. The LDT is expansive and complex which means there may be some transitions between states that are first undefined. The system can identify these undefined transitions and resolve them using logic from the linear array. The linear reduces the computational load needed to effectively define these transitions. The final logic design is fabricated in semiconductor gates which implement the Boolean logic.

The implementation of their LDT can assess all logical conditions and actions before implementing them. Since the system can automatically implement precise functional specifications into hardware or software, it can further reduce human error and provides a chance to expose any design errors. LDT has the potential to improve processes in any binary environment.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
