Georgia Patent of the Month – March 2025

EarliTec Diagnostics, Inc. has developed a groundbreaking eye-tracking system that may transform how clinicians detect developmental disorders in children, including autism.

The system includes two portable devices: a handheld eye-tracker with a built-in screen and camera, and a separate tablet used by the clinician. What sets this invention apart is its wireless setup. The two devices connect through a secure cloud server, allowing clinicians to control the test from a distance—even from outside the child’s view.

How It Works

While the child watches a series of short videos, the eye-tracker records real-time eye movements using infrared technology. The system automatically uploads the gaze data and video timeline to the cloud. From there, it generates reports that help assess a child’s cognitive or social development—without needing any verbal input.

Before testing begins, the system uses visual cues to align the child’s gaze, helping reduce stress. It also offers automatic calibration to ensure accuracy during each session.

Why It Matters

Current methods for diagnosing developmental conditions often rely on subjective observation and can vary widely in accuracy. Many children are diagnosed late, reducing the effectiveness of early intervention. This new tool gives clinicians an objective, easy-to-use option—especially valuable for toddlers who can’t yet explain what they’re feeling.

With earlier detection, more children could receive support when it matters most.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
