U.S. Patent No. 12290842, titled ‘Sorting of dark colored and black plastics’, introduces a system that can detect and separate dark plastics with high accuracy. Conventional recycling systems miss black plastics because their color blocks optical sensors. This innovation uses medium wavelength infrared (MWIR) imaging and machine learning to spot and classify these hard-to-see materials.
