Iowa Patent of the Month – March 2023

Lansing Housing Products, Inc was founded with the intention of developing and manufacturing superior products that protect adults and children from harm or injury. Recently, the company has patented their window protection and safety system for this exact purpose.

Every year in the United States, several children fall from windows, causing severe injuries or death. Despite the use of window screens and fall prevention window guards, children are still vulnerable to accidents.

Lansing Housing Products’ technology uses a safety screen that offers improved window fall prevention. The safety screen is designed to provide an additional layer of protection while retaining the standard benefits of a window screen. The safety screen has removable attachment options that allow it to be securely attached to the window frame with a set of cables, preventing children from falling out of the window.

The safety screen system is designed to offer several advantages, such as the prevention of falls, even if the screen becomes loose, which can happen with other safety systems. Typical child safety screen guards are designed to withstand the pressure – minimum 60 pounds static weight – from kids pushing or leaning. Tough Tek Metals®, withstand 100 pounds static pressure, far exceeding the 60 lb standard, and keep children on the safe side of an open window.
