Kansas Patent of the Month – June 2022
Vornado Air, LLC has been innovating electric fans and comfort systems for decades. In fact, their original product – the Vornadofan™ – was created in 1945 and the fan industry was never the same. Their early designs were influenced by airplane designs created with totally novel aerodynamic technology. Vornado’s founder Richard Ten Eyck expanded on this Vornado Plane technology, applying the knowledge to create a more efficient and reliable electric fan.
With such innovative roots, it is no surprise that the company has continued to advance the industry, creating constant comfort without the need for oscillation and utilitarian designs. Their fans complement existing AC and HVAC systems to optimize comfort by controlling the temperature and humidity of a room.
Recently, the company designed an air circulator that uses a vein control system to direct and adjust airflow patterns as needed. The air tower circulator is designed with a vertical air blower which directs airflow into an outer portion. This outer portion has a series of adjustable and pivotally mounted veins. Eac vein has a pivot pin which is connected to a sliding mechanism. This allows the veins to be controlled, adjusted, and locked in place.
The veins can be controlled by turning a knob to either focus or diverge the airflow. Manipulation of the airflow patterns in this way ensures the user has total control over the strength and dissipation of airflow – and therefore control over their comfort.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
