Kansas Patent of the Month – June 2024
HyperBorean, Inc., a cleantech company, has been granted a patent for their innovative heat-driven vapor-compression system which marks a significant advancement in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration. This system ingeniously leverages heat, an abundant and low-cost energy source, to power a unique burst compressor and vapor pump, reducing reliance on electricity or fossil fuels.
Central to this invention is the burst compressor, which pressurizes the refrigerant and simultaneously supplies pressurized gas to the vapor pump, facilitating its push and pull operations. This dynamic duo effectively draws low-pressure refrigerant from the evaporator, forces it into the burst compressor where it is rapidly heated and pressurized, and then releases it in bursts to drive the cooling cycle.
By utilizing heat, whether from the sun or other waste heat sources, the system minimizes the substantial energy costs and additional heat generation typical of conventional compressors. This innovation not only enhances the efficiency of air conditioning and refrigeration systems but also significantly lowers operational costs, making it an attractive solution for both residential and industrial applications.
HyperBorean’s system redefines cooling technology by harnessing heat to produce cold, offering a more sustainable and economical alternative to traditional vapor-compression systems. This breakthrough holds the promise of transforming how we cool our environments, reducing energy consumption, and mitigating the associated costs and environmental impacts.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
