Kansas Patent of the Month – March 2022
Bushnell, Inc. has been an industry leader in high-performance optics for more than 70 years. As such, it’s no surprise that their expertise can be used to improve firearm accuracy.
Many variables impact the accuracy of a firearm’s shot. Even the weight of the ammunition may throw this off. Many skilled hunters will calibrate their sighting device using a known weight of their gun but if the ammunition weight varies from what is anticipated, this calibration will also be off.
Bushnell, Inc. has designed a powder dispenser which can be used to measure and dispense an exact volume and weight of powder to fill a casing. Bushnell’s design is more accurate and efficient than traditional methods.
Their design offers a dual-barrel powder dispenser which can load the container rapidly. The barrels rotate at a given speed with the powder dispensing from a hopper. A scale monitors the total weight of powder dispensed into the container resting on the scale. The speeds can be increased or decreased as needed to improve accuracy. Powder can be dispensed from both barrels at once until the target weight is approached. Then one barrel is arrested, limiting powder dispensement to just one barrel for more fine control. With precision measurement for ammo, accuracy in calibration is that much closer.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
