Kansas Patent of the Month – May 2025

Spinal Simplicity LLC is reshaping spinal surgery with a new implant designed to improve sacroiliac (SI) joint fusion. U.S. Patent Application No. 20250143763, titled ‘Bony fusion implant, insertion instrument, and methods’, introduces a self-drilling implant that promotes bone growth and simplifies delivery. The invention could shorten recovery times and improve long-term spinal stability.

New Implant Boosts Fusion Success

The device uses a threaded body and a lattice structure to support natural bone growth. Unlike traditional implants, it drills into bone directly, which removes the need for pre-drilling. This not only reduces surgical steps but also lowers the risk of complications. Moreover, its central lattice allows bone graft material to flow through, encouraging fusion.

Delivery Tool Adds Precision

The system includes a rod and outer shaft that guide the implant. A luer lock at the rod’s end connects directly to a syringe. As a result, surgeons can inject graft material during placement. Additionally, a rotating knob allows for accurate control, while the shaft helps align the implant.

Real-World Benefits

By combining delivery and placement in one tool, the system saves time in the operating room. Furthermore, it supports a less invasive approach. Patients may experience faster healing and better outcomes. Overall, this patent highlights Spinal Simplicity LLC’s ongoing mission to improve spinal care through smart, patient-focused technology.
