Kentucky Patent of the Month – August 2021

Watercraft lighting used for navigation is typically a colored source of light on a ship. For instance, a red light mounted on the port side, a green light on starboard, and white mounted to shine from astern is quite standard. Other lights might be aimed at the water to illuminate the surrounding area. In any case, these lights project out from the surface of the ship and are easily damaged during transportation. Night Fishing Solutions has developed an alternative design to improve the use of these lights.

Their light is designed to fit in a rub rail which is meant to protect the ship from damage by rubbing. The light sits snugly within the rub rail’s track, extending along the length of the rail. Light can then illuminate the entire surrounding area. The light itself is made of  PCB tubing with an array of LEDs positioned along the length. With these lights sitting flush within the rub rail, there is no concern of obstacles or other debris damaging them. Reduced risk of damage ensures you will have adequate light anytime you are nightboating.
