Louisiana Patent of the Month – May 2022

Marine Technologies, LLC is helping to bring the marina into the unmanned future. They have developed remote control capabilities using sensor technology, connectivity at sea, and analysis/decision support software and algorithms. As such, Marine Technologies has recently patented their remote control system, allowing for land-based communication and control over marine vessels.

Their system uses a one-way Ethernet connection to protect against cyberattacks. They found that this solution successfully blocked approximately 98% of cyberattacks by preventing any hacker-driven feedback signals from getting through their communication. Using a C-Link 2-360, they have achieved a range of 5 km with reliable communication. This solution can be used to control vessels remotely from a workboat deck or even as a backup control system in autonomous ferries.

Headquartered in Mandeville, Louisiana, Marine Technologies has been developing technology to support all types of vessels, from large offshore specialty vessels, accommodation vessels, and wind-field supply vessels to smaller tug boats and luxury yachts. With over 20 years of innovation, they have successfully created turnkey solutions for data collection, vessel monitoring, data-driven risk assessment, condition monitoring, machine learning, and fuel and emissions monitoring.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
