Louisiana Patent of the Month – October 2021

Pullout drawers are a staple in modern kitchen designs. Wooden pullout drawers built into cabinets can be very heavy, difficult to clean, and can be difficult to customize to the cabinet face. Hardware Resources, Inc. has spent the last 30 years innovating and improving cabinetry from design to aesthetics. Recently, they have designed a pullout retainer cage which is both lightweight and easily adjusted to the cabinet.

Their cage can be removably mounted to drawer slides. The slides are coupled to each other with a set of cross braces which are mounted to the base of the cabinet frame. The design uses horizontal cage rails mounted by vertical stanchions which form three distinct planes and provide great support. This design then supports adjustment brackets. The retainer cage, abse frame, and drawer slides are moveable between the retracted and extended position. They also include an automatic retraction and damping mechanism which make the transition between positions smoother. The assembly can be completely removed from the drawer slides making it easy to clean and adjust. The design leads to a lightweight structure so that anyone can manoeuver it with little to no issue.
