Maine Patent of the Month – July 2021

Those afflicted with carpal tunnel syndrome or repetitive strain on their wrists and arms often use massaging devices to try and treat the pain. The same can be said for anyone with overuse or repetitive strain on any other joint, or body part. These hand-held devices, though, are usually unable to offer any stabilizing support. Still, other automatic massaging devices are incapable of reacting to or registering pain felt by the user and will continue to do so until the user is able to manually shut it off. The Armaid Company has developed a massage tool which can be better stabilized and gives the user the best control over the device.

The Armaid massager is hand-held, with two separate arms. The first, large arm has a permanent roller, while the second, small, and adjustable arm holds interchangeable therapy roller attachments. The smaller arm can also rotate in relation to the first arm, making it adjust and form to the user as needed. The body part, for instance your wrist, can be placed between the two arms, so that both roller and vibratory therapy can be applied. This dual application can help improve both blood and lymph circulation, reducing inflammation in muscle tissue. The base of the device is covered in a non-skid material to create optimal stability. The device can remain stable while the user massages any body part. They can also control each of the arms to regulate pressure. These types of improvements mean all the world to those who rely on massage to mitigate pain.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
