Maine Patent of the Month – September 2022
Many machines, like kiosks, card readers, and automated teller machines, receive notes, checks, cards and other printed media on a daily basis. This media is often coated with dirt, oil and/or other contaminants which can be transferred to the machine’s internal systems, such as the belt, conveyors and sensors. Build-up of these contaminants can cause the machine to malfunction. Unfortunately, traditional cleaning methods are labor-intensive, requiring the technician to disassemble the device and clean each part by hand.
KIC Team, Inc. is focused on providing businesses with effective cleaning solutions for electrical devices. They focus on developing safe cleaners that won’t damage critical components and aim to reduce the time it takes to clean large machinery.
Their development consists of a card that is coated with a non-hazardous and non-flammable cleaning formula. It can be inserted into the media transport device and has an extendable handle to ensure it can be easily retrieved. Its waffle-like coating expands inside of the card reader or other payment terminal to effectively clean all internal surfaces as it is moved forwards and backwards through the terminal. Their innovative cleaning card reduces failed card transactions, prevents internal hardware replacements, and outperforms flat cleaning cards that cannot effectively clean difficult-to-reach internal areas. This effective solution helps businesses to avoid expensive service calls and unnecessary device downtime, keeping staff and customers happy.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
