The demand for high-speed and low-latency wireless communication capabilities has increased dramatically in recent years. There is hope that novel wireless signal protocols could be used for high-speed and efficient wireless data transfer to and from a huge number of potentially closely spaced devices. The challenge here is supporting the number of wireless devices that will also have ever growing demands for data rates. You might have been in a busy place – a sports stadium or airports – where phone usage and internet is slow since everyone is trying to use it at the same time. While installing more access points might help, it doesn’t tackle the root of the problem. Origin Wireless, LLC has developed a time-reversal technology that combats these limitations.
Their invention uses a wireless transceiver in each device, coupled together through a wireless broadband multipath channel. The time reversal client works to obtain location-specific signatures and other channel information using probing signals. Based on this channel information, a channel impulse responses are determined. This information is used to calculate moving distance and generate a downlink signal capable of maximizing the downlink data rate. By collecting and processing the location-specific wireless information, their system allows for optimized and personalized commands to direct communication between devices that will reduce limitations and overwhelmed connections. This communication style aims to increase wireless communication efficiency to improve the ability to meet the ever-rising demand.
