Maryland Patent of the Month – May 2021

Medical records contain demographic information, medical history, reports, and other notes taken by doctors, nurses, and caretakers. This information and its formatting varies across sources, since different medical offices use different software and systems. This mismatched formatting can make searching through the data, or even the metadata, difficult. Netspective Communications LLC saw this and developed a blockchain system to retrieve this varied data and convert it to a standardized digital format and then store it in a repository of medical information.

The blockchain system receives data through a proxy database and stores it in a records database. The records database is configured with a natural language processor (NLP) which can intake and process the stored data. The NLP works to help translate the data with a metadata and data validation system and store it into a standardized format. This stored, standardized, and structured data can then be accessed by those with clearance (medical professionals) using a social network platform built specifically for this. The use of NLP and data validation systems help to ensure the data is properly standardized, helping medical professionals to better access and understand a patient’s previous medical history.

Are you developing new software for a new application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
