Minnesota Patent of the Month – May 2022

ReconRobotics, Inc. are leaders in tactical micro-bot systems with nearly 6,000 ReconRobotics ® robots deployed to the U.S. military and international friendly forces, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, bomb squads and fire/rescue teams. Recently, they have designed a two wheeled robot capable of climbing for surveillance.

In their design, the wheels are prepared with treads to provide the needed friction and grip to climb over obstacles. These treads are designed as fangled paddles which allow the wheel to touch, grip, and pull over obstacles. The radially inward deflection of the paddles also smooths out the ride while moving forward, ensuring any camera footage is clear and reliable. A stabilizer is incorporated to prevent it from tipping over.

While being able to climb over obstacles, the robot is equipped with sensors, cameras, and communication equipment to properly gather and transmit information. Efficient robots like this provide the tech needed to:

  • Protect lives of personnel
  • Minimize collateral damage
  • Gain immediate situational awareness
