Mississippi Patent of the Month – December 2022
Douglas Feeders and Accessories, LLC is a family operated developer of auger dispensing systems trusted by farm owners, hunters, and more.
Most traditional feeders use a vibrating mechanism to dispense powder. Unfortunately, when the powder is wet or even damp, the vibrating mechanism is insufficient to dispense the powder. Douglas Feeders has overcome this limitation, developing a newly patented material feeder with a material flow assist mechanism.
The flow assist mechanism uses a slow rotating motor with high torque and low RPM to quietly dispense feed. This quiet is crucial to ensuring the dispenser does not disturb the animals. A set of telescoping arms, powered by the motor, help to move the feed material towards the auger. Each of these arms has an attachment which scrapes along the inner wall of the hopper, agitating and moving material.
The assistance from the telescoping arms, and the inclusion of a conveyor belt-type system helps to move powder-type feeds along even when damp or wet. The agitation from the telescoping arms prevents the material from clumping and sticking to the walls, while a vertical orientation increases auger stability.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
