Mississippi Patent of the Month – June 2021

Whitmor, Inc. has been in the home organizing business for over 75 years, reducing stress and making life more enjoyable. Bringing this organization means designing and developing unique storage units that suit any space. Recently. They have been working on a wardrobe unit that offers more than the usual space saving. The unit also has detachable storage units that can attach to a frame.

The unit has a base and upper frame. The base has a U-shaped front and second U-shaped rear. A floor shelf is attached to the base, providing a bottom storage shelf. Further up, the front and back pieces are connected with a cross-bar on either side. Even further up, another support structure attaches the front and back pieces, this time as a bar with peaks and valleys. This “WW” shaped bar can double as a hanger-based storage. The top portion is attached from right to left via a pole which allows for hanger-based storage.

A side storage component can be attached to the cross bar and bottom shelf. This storage component has a back panel, and a series of pockets across the surface to provide shoe storage – or whatever you prefer to put in there. These side panels actually come in different designs. Instead of multiple pockets, one design has a single basket shape, with a lid. Another has a sack-like pocket. Since they are detachable, the user can mix and match different storage options to suit their needs. Finally, the unit is on wheels for easy movement.
