Missouri Patent of the Month – February 2023

Kultevat, LLC operates in a closed loop model, utilizing dandelions and proprietary processes to produce high quality natural rubbers. Alongside their natural rubber, the company has built a scalable supply chain to distribute worldwide.

As part of this mission, the company has recently patented a continuous stirred tank solvent extraction system (CSTE) which supports the commercial-scale extraction of products from solid feedstocks. The CSTE system allows for continuous processing of feedstock 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The efficiency of extraction is also increased, making it commercially competitive and superior compared with other commercial scale extraction processing methods.

The system and method optimizes the extraction of selected product(s) from the feedstock. The method comprises solids conditioning and preparation, extraction temperature, and mixing, agitation, and wet milling. The particle size and shape of feedstock is reduced, then soaked, macerated, softened, and dried to expand the surface area and open the solids of the feedstock for extraction via exposure to a liquid solvent and penetration of the solvent. Increasing the pressure and temperature in the CSTE tank drastically improves extraction efficiency.

Kultevat’s CSTE method offers the lowest cost per amount of processed feedstock when compared against traditional extraction methods. Additionally, the system and methods are environmentally friendly, with the potential to use lower purchased cost solvents. The CSTE system and method are perfect for companies looking to process feedstock continuously, making it a much more efficient option than traditional and existing commercial scale extraction methods.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
