Montana Patent of the Month – February 2025

Firearms technology constantly evolves, and Shield Arms is leading the charge with a groundbreaking pistol magazine design that maximizes capacity without increasing bulk. This new magazine reimagines traditional single-stack designs, providing a significant boost in round count while maintaining compatibility with existing handguns.

The secret lies in the innovative use of a thinner metallic tubular body. While standard OEM polymer or polymer-over-metal magazines take up valuable internal space with thick walls, Shield Arms’ metal construction allows for a more efficient use of space. This enables a staggered arrangement of 9x19mm cartridges, effectively transforming what was once a low-capacity single-stack into a high-capacity solution—without altering the external dimensions of the magazine.

To counteract excess front-to-back spacing that could otherwise disrupt functionality, the design incorporates an integrated forward wall spacer. Unlike conventional shims that add cost and complexity, Shield Arms’ solution is a longitudinal ridge stamped directly into the magazine’s body. This ensures proper cartridge alignment while maintaining structural integrity and ease of manufacturing.

The result? A magazine that fits seamlessly into a pistol designed for single-stack magazines yet holds up to 50% more ammunition. For example, a typical 10-round magazine now expands to 15 rounds, dramatically increasing firepower without requiring modifications to the firearm itself.

This innovation is a game-changer for concealed carry and self-defense, where higher capacity in a compact package is crucial. Shield Arms has not just improved magazine capacity—they’ve redefined it, setting a new standard for efficiency and performance in the firearms industry. As the demand for smarter, more effective firearm accessories grows, this magazine stands as a testament to what’s possible with thoughtful engineering and cutting-edge design.
