Nebraska Patent of the Month – January 2023

Traditional self-propelled irrigation systems, which are widely used in the agricultural industry today, are complex and unreliable, with a large number of components that result in low reliability and heavy irrigation systems that cause ruts in the ground and damage to agricultural equipment.

RealmFive, Inc., an AgTech company focused on developing enterprise solutions for the industry, has developed a way to overcome these problems with its revolutionary farming system. The design uses a novel propulsion system to provide reliable omnidirectional control of the field engagement unit. This integrated farming system combines this propulsion system with a complete set of work tools which are autonomously controlled.

RealmFive’s farming system is a major improvement over traditional self-propelled irrigation systems. It is cost-effective, energy-efficient, and offers improved coverage compared to traditional systems. The omnidirectional control allows the system to be used on a variety of terrains, including hills. The local controller directs and controls all field tools, reducing the manual control needed.

With personal experience on farms, RealmFive’s founders knew the number one limiting factor in agriculture was labor. This first-hand experience drove them to found RealmFive and begin intersecting agriculture and technology. Their first mission was to help farmers make the right decision every time using real-time data. Since then, they have grown to develop a complete system to manage data, control equipment, and automate the laborious parts of farming.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
