Nebraska Patent of the Month – July 2024

Efficient Technologies, Inc. is making baggage handling easier than ever with an automated system utilizing robotics. The company was founded to fight the issues that airlines are fraught with – from losing luggage to damaging it in processing.

At its core, the newly patented baggage vehicle features a versatile storage area equipped with multiple storage sections, each optimized to accommodate various baggage sizes and types. An exterior conveyor, which spans the length of the vehicle, efficiently transports baggage from loading to unloading points. What sets this system apart is its ability to pivot and telescope, adapting seamlessly to different loading conditions and operational environments.

The vehicle’s intelligence is driven by a sophisticated software system, enabling seamless communication with airport databases. Upon receiving baggage identifiers, such as RFID or barcode data, the system autonomously directs the exterior conveyor to transport baggage to designated areas within the storage section. This process is further refined by a lateral sorter, which adjusts the baggage’s lateral position, and a vertical sorter that manages vertical positioning based on the baggage identifier’s data, ensuring optimal storage efficiency.

Efficient Technologies’ invention not only enhances operational speed but also improves accuracy in sorting and handling baggage. By automating these critical tasks, airports can reduce reliance on manual labor, minimize handling errors, and expedite the overall baggage handling process. This innovation represents a significant step forward in the airline industry’s quest for efficiency and passenger satisfaction, promising smoother operations and improved service reliability.
