New Jersey Patent of the Month – July 2022

ThirdEye Gen, Inc. has been leading the development of hands-free augmented and mixed reality smart glasses (AR and MR). With a background of supporting the U.S. Military, the company has developed their futuristic technology to include laser range-finders for pre-shot threat detection, AR scopes, electro-optics designs and more.

Ofcourse, interactive glasses that use AR/MR technology have many purposes. From surgical procedures to educational instruction, entertainment to multimedia presentations, this technology is truly the next wave.

The company recently patented their design for a custom MR smart glasses for vision impaired use. This includes low vision, vision impairment (eg. those with Glaucoma or Macular degeneration), and full blindness The frame is designed with a processor and camera. Between these two systems, and the software that connects them, the eyewear can operate AR applications, creating a wide-angle field view.

The eyewear hardware has no protruding wires and is completely hands free, making it as accessible as possible. The software was developed using specialized firmware to achieve greyscale viewing and to readily adapt to both indoor and outdoor use. A range of features have been included, such as:

  • Optical Character Recognition readback
  • Toggle flashlight
  • Decreased aspect ratios
  • High contrast views
  • UPC lookup and more.
