New Jersey’s Patent of the Month – November 2020

Have you seen armoured transport vehicles going from bank to bank and wonder if they ever get robbed? They’re trucks, not buildings with a team of security guards, so what safety measures do they have? Some vehicles have large transport cases that are heavy, making them difficult to be carried away. But these are expensive to make. There are other systems, such as panic buttons and dye deployment inside the cash storage containers that devalue the money. But there are issues with these as well: panic buttons rely on the manual action of the driver, which can’t always be relied on if the driver is detained or away from the truck. And dye doesn’t guarantee the complete devaluation of the stolen items. These trucks are required and are the safest option, but there’s still much risk involved in this process. So, how do we make it safer for both businesses and drivers? Well, Ellenby Technologies Inc. has invented an innovative anti-tampering, anti-theft system for this purpose.

The system was invented to draw attention to the theft (for deterrence) and is fit with tracking to locate stolen valuables. It includes a wide range of monitoring devices, such as:

  • a wireless fob that communicates with the guard’s fob,
  • a sensor that detects if the cash storage container is in a secure or unsafe region,
  • a device to monitor the fastener or zipper of the cash storage,
  • an ambient light sensor to monitor the interior of the cash storage, and
  • an alarm and/or a smoke deployment system that will trigger if tampering occurs.

Their system is the newest innovation in security, and likely to help thousands of businesses across the country.

Are you developing new systems? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
