Lighting matters – it can set a mood or ambience, direct a customer’s attention, or even influence your mood. It’s no surprise that there is a whole field of study on the psychological impact of light and color. The experts at Insight Lighting, Inc. are familiar with these concepts and have spent decades developing a range of light solutions for all sorts of applications.
But light’s ability doesn’t stop at lifting your mood. Insight Lighting has recently developed a lighting fixture that takes advantage of UV-C LEDs in order to create a sanitizing effect for the surrounding environment.
Due largely to the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a growing concern for the spread of contagious diseases when moving around public places. Many stores and venues have implemented disinfection protocols but, when busy, these may fall to the wayside. The company’s solution is a light fixture that can display information to nearby viewers while sanitizing the ambient air that circulates the fixture.
The fixture uses white or color changing LEDs to illuminate the side panels and the information displayed there. The UV-C LEDs are arranged around the fixture ino order to maximally sanitize the ambient air. These UV-C LEDs emit sterilizing wavelengths into the air above the fixture. Since most indoor spaces have circulating air, the air surrounding the fixture is constantly moving, and therefore fresh batches of air are constantly being sterilized.
This technology could be incorporated into exit or direction signs seen commonly around malls and indoor public areas. The applications are limited only by imagination.
