New Mexico Patent of the Month – May 2022

Honey is sweet, and homegrown honey is even sweeter. Beekeeping has become a fairly popular hobby with apiarist’s setting up beehives in their backyard regardless of urban or rural settings. Not only does this benefit the apiarist – who gets to collect honey – but the honeybee population benefits as well. A key component to a beehive for a beekeeper is the ease of access. Uncle A’s Beehive, LLC has made access as easy as possible with their hive design.

Their hive is designed in a way that allows them to be stacked without impeding access. Within the hive box, the apiarist can position a series of frames which sit face to face. These frames provide the structure needed for the honeybee to build honeycombs. Each frame is individually positioned and therefore individually removable. This way the apiarist can pull out a frame when it’s full to collect the honey. When the hive boxes are stacked on top of each other, there would be no cover separating them. This allows the bees to travel from frame to frame and hive to hive, building a bigger nest overall. The stackable and interlocking design feature also allows apiarist’s to choose how large their beekeeping hobby will be, so that it can suit a small city backyard or a large farmland.
