New York Patent of the Month – May 2021

As technology advances, our typical day to day activities can be improved and made easier. For instance, a lot of us are working from home now, sitting at a desk with monitors, a keyboard and mouse. Cemtrex, Inc. has decided to revamp these desktop settings by creating a Smart desk setup that can help to add comfort and ease to our work environment. The general setup of a desk is typically not ergonomically suited for touch screens so Cemtrex intends to include both touch and touchless controls.

The design Cemtrex came up with uses multiple touch displays which can be controlled by both touch and touchless gestures. The smart desk can track a user’s movements using a motion sensor to register preset gestures. Touchless gestures could include copy, paste, scroll, page turn, zoom and so on. These gestures could be intuitive, for instance, a grab gesture could indicate “copy” and a throw gesture could paste the information. The touch gestures could be more involved, transferring content between displays and controlling browsers. The flat surface of the desk would include a virtual keyboard which operates the same way an average keyboard does. Cemtrex wants this modern workspace to give you more control over work, increase comfort and productivity as we all spend more time on screens.
