North Carolina Patent of the Month – August 2021

Overhanging tree limbs and other vegetation along roads, paths, and right-of-ways is tedious and sometimes costly. Usually the property owner is responsible for maintenance, but some more difficult tasks – like along transmission and power lines – may require more care. This maintenance might need any equipment from weed wackers to chainsaws and bucket trucks. TreeFrogg LLC has designed an improved maintenance method for lower costs and less labor.

This design uses a loader saw attachment device which has a boom and motor assembly. The circular saw blade mechanically couples with the motor assembly and then to the boom assembly. The entire device is attached toa  loader with lift arms – such as a skid-steer or tracked loader. The saw can range from 12 to 18 feet and can reach 20 ft beyond the loader. Controlled by a gerotor hydraulic motor, the saw can reach rotations of 3000 rpm. With attachment to devices like loaders, the saw attachment provides a cost effective tool for use in maintenance of roadways and other areas since you no longer need dedicated equipment. The host machine can be used for any usual purpose once the attachment saw is removed The attachment can easily access easements and off-highway locations. They are easier to use and have greater reach than handheld pole saw, and are more powerful than chainsaws all without requiring climbing or bucket trucks.
