North Carolina Patent of the Month – March 2021
Bryn Pharma, LLC is trying to empower patients with a life-saving device that is small enough to comfortably fit in your pocket and easy to use in the event of an anaphylactic attack. They have been redesigning how people can react to anaphylactic attacks in a cost effective, portable, easy-to-use and needless way.
Epinephrine is a hormone that stimulates the nervous system. It binds to adrenergic receptors to provide relief from anaphylaxis. Bryn Pharma is changing the administration of epinephrine. Traditional EpiPens are scary to many people, with the large needle and possible confusion on appropriate administration methods. Bryn Pharma has designed a spray formula to deliver epinephrine to the system. The solution is sprayed through the nose for rapid dispersal to the nervous system. It is recommended that people with severe allergies carry two EpiPens on them at all times as a second dose is sometimes required. Studies show that many people with allergies do not even carry one EpiPen as they are large and cumbersome. The sprayable solution comes in a two dose container small enough to fit in a pocket. It is Bryn Pharma’s hope that this device will save lives and make anaphylaxis treatment more affordable.
