North Dakota Patent of the Month – November 2021
Hotel rooms are shared by hundreds of people throughout the year. Yes, hotel staff clean the room in between guests, but there are still cases of bugs, lingering odors, and other pests or allergens. Certain sanitation methods use chemicals which can lead to later irritation or may be dangerous if mixed. Insects are also known to build resistance to chemicals. As such, better sanitation methods are needed. BWR Innovations LLC has designed a sterilization system that uses heated air to safely – and effectively – clean a hotel room.
Their system can heat up and distribute air throughout the room. This process is achieved using a hydrogen fuel cell which uses a hydrogen source to generate electrical power. This then powers a heater which increases the temperature to above 100℉. The heated air is then distributed around the room by a fan. These temperatures can be sufficient to eradicate both insects and microorganisms. In addition to the heater, the system uses a UV light source and an aerosol dispenser. The combination of heat, UV light, and aerosol disinfectant covers all the bases, producing a well and truly sanitized room. This can be applied to any room, not just those seen in hotels. This device could help out real estate agents trying to prep a house for sale, homeless shelters trying to ready a room for the next guest, or labs as they aim to achieve sterilization. The device can be controlled by an app on the users phone or computer, starting it remotely after being set up in the room.
BWR Innovations is focused on integrating fuel cell technology into both new and legacy equipment. This plan helps companies to automate their business for better productivity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
