Oklahoma Patent of the Month – July 2021

Growing a plant in your home requires constant care and attention to make sure it receives the same conditions it would have in the wild. When you start growing indoor plants on a large scale, you need a system to constantly monitor and control the environment. These conditions to be monitored include temperature and dew point. RAE Corp. has designed a climate control system specifically for use in indoor horticulture.

Through the control system, the climate control uses an air supply and refrigerant system. Connecting ducts between the two systems allow fluid communication and integration. Sensors associated with the controller help to maintain preset target values for dry bulb temperature, dew point, and enthalpy. The sensors provide the data that the control system uses to operate a three-way valve, supply fan speed, and compressor speed to adjust the air supply or refrigerant levels. If the environment moves outside of an acceptable range for any of the three environmental conditions, the controller readjusts and brings the room back within range. RAE Corp’s experience in heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems provides expertise in the development of an automated indoor horticultural climate control system.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
