Oklahoma Patent of the Month – June 2022
Virtual reality and immersive technologies are set to change our everyday lives. They are being incorporated in more and more industries and activities, integrating with our lives, and helping us in a number of ways. One such way is in entertainment.
FlyingTee Tech, LLC has combined these immersive technologies with golf to create a more interactive and exciting golf experience for anyone. Many people are unable to get out to a golf course but with this game play, golfing can be brought to life anywhere.
The system builds an immersive game play range by integrating a dynamic, interactive range surface and a dynamic end-of-range display. This display is configured to display flight paths of golf balls as they are struck from a multi-level driving range. These displays are projected onto a large, multi-user game environment that corresponds to this simulated activity. This set up allows multiple users to play on the same field without requiring them to be engaged in the same activity. This means multiple users could be lined up and playing a simulated golf game on the same screen without actually playing together.
This is accomplished using heads-up displays and numerous sensors to track the position of the player, the ball, and other details. A range sensor measures the shots by fusing multiple overlapping sensor data streams into a single 3D volume which is immediately converted into flight trajectory data and translated onto the screen.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
