New Mexico and the R&D Tax Credit
The New Mexico Research and Development Tax Credit indefinitely rewards qualifying corporate investments within the state. This incentive is strictly limited to corporations. For S-Corporations, the credit is capped at their New Mexico corporate tax liability and cannot pass through to individual shareholders. Taxpayers can carry forward any unused credits for up to seven years. When claiming the basic or additional credit, businesses must comply with strict reporting requirements. Annual reports detailing business activities and state operations must be submitted to the Taxation and Revenue Department by June 30 of the year following the claim, and the two subsequent years.
