Fontana, California Patent of the Year – 2024/2025

South Bay International Inc. and Aldo New-Tech Materials (Jiaxing) Co. Ltd. has been awarded the 2024/2025 Patent of the Year for their innovation in textile-based pest control. Their invention, detailed in U.S. Patent No. 12041930, titled ‘Slow-release silk thread and method for preparing the same’, utilizes a multilayered silk thread embedded with porous microspheres to deliver slow-release natural repellents.

This silk thread comprises three layers: a substrate, a slow-release layer, and a protective layer. The slow-release layer contains porous silica or carbon microspheres that adsorb natural extracts like citronella, lemon eucalyptus, and wormwood. These microspheres gradually release the agents, providing extended protection against mites and bacteria.

The design ensures that the active ingredients are released over time, maintaining effectiveness for longer periods. The substrate layer is made of materials like polyethylene terephthalate or polyurethane, while the protective layer consists of polyurethane or polyethylene, safeguarding the inner components.

This technology offers a significant advancement in maintaining hygiene in textiles such as bedding, upholstery, and clothing. By integrating natural repellents into the fabric, it reduces the need for frequent chemical treatments and washing, promoting a healthier living environment.
The innovation holds promise for various applications, including healthcare, hospitality, and consumer products, where long-lasting antimicrobial and anti-mite properties are essential.
