Hartford, Connecticut Patent of the Year – 2024/2025

EcoGensus LLC has been awarded the 2024/2025 Patent of the Year for its breakthrough in sustainable waste-to-fuel technology. Their invention, detailed in U.S. Patent No. 11879106, titled ‘Process for forming a solid fuel composition from mixed solid waste’, transforms mixed solid waste into a clean-burning solid fuel through a novel low-pressure thermal process.

The patented method involves heating and mixing unsorted municipal waste – such as plastics, paper, and organic matter – at temperatures high enough to melt embedded plastics, all under reduced atmospheric pressure. This approach eliminates the need for extensive pre-sorting and chemical additives, making it both efficient and scalable. The resulting fuel is dense, stable, and suitable for industrial applications, offering a viable alternative to coal and other fossil fuels.

This innovation addresses two major environmental challenges: reducing landfill waste and lowering carbon emissions from energy production. By converting everyday trash into usable fuel, EcoGensus aims to close the loop on waste while supporting global decarbonization efforts. The company’s broader mission includes redefining recycling and accelerating the transition to a circular economy through advanced materials and resource recovery technologies.

With nearly 80 patents and a growing portfolio of industrial solutions, EcoGensus is positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing and energy innovation. Their latest patent underscores a commitment to practical climate solutions that can be deployed at scale across industries and municipalities.
