Dallas, Texas Patent of the Year – 2024/2025

Berkshire Biomedical LLC has been awarded the 2024/2025 Patent of the Year for its innovation in secure, personalized medication delivery. Their invention, detailed in U.S. Patent No. 12076517, titled ‘Computerized oral prescription administration devices and associated systems and methods’, introduces a handheld device that dispenses oral liquid medications only after verifying the patient’s identity through fingerprint and dental pattern recognition.

This Computerized Oral Prescription Administration (COPA™) system ensures that only the intended user can access the prescribed medication. The device stores the medication and, upon successful biometric authentication, releases the correct dose through a mouthpiece. It also records each administration event and transmits the data to healthcare providers via a secure, cloud-based platform, enabling remote monitoring and dosage adjustments.

By combining precise dosing with dual biometric security, the COPA system aims to enhance patient adherence and reduce the risk of misuse. This technology is particularly significant for managing treatments involving controlled substances, such as methadone for opioid use disorder, where adherence and security are critical.

Berkshire Biomedical’s COPA system represents a significant advancement in personalized medicine, offering a secure and efficient solution for medication management that benefits both patients and healthcare providers.
