South Dakota Patent of the Month – February 2021

Most people need to get a colonoscopy when they turn 50 and every 10 years after that. Some people and age groups require it more frequently, especially if you have colon cancer, or other colon related illnesses. Colonoscopies are the best way to screen for illnesses related to the colon. But patients need to properly prepare for a colonoscopy, as the environment is not often conducive for medical tests. There are different medical preparations, but some can cause electrolyte imbalances if completed improperly. In order to improve preparation efficiency and safety, Dark Canyon Laboratories, LLC has developed a specialist colon lavage system.

The system includes a kit for patients to use, which includes pre-packaged doses of water soluble palatable osmotic agents. In addition to these, patients are also provided with electrolyte doses included in the kit, made up of ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbate, or magnesium sulfate or citrate. This provides the patients with the proper electrolyte balance while preparing for the important medical procedure, making it safer and easier for everyone.
