South Dakota Patent of the Month – June 2025
A new patent application from Global Polymer Industries Inc. reveals a significant upgrade to the injection molding process, promising better product quality, reduced waste, and more consistent outputs. U.S. Patent Application No. 20250196406, titled ‘Molding apparatus and method’, outlines an inventive system that automatically aligns mold components with precise force control, transforming how thermoplastic parts are formed.
Smarter molding with built-in precision
Traditional injection molding often struggles with misalignment and inconsistent pressure, leading to part defects. This invention introduces a mold carriage with integrated sensors and an adaptive control system. These elements ensure the mold closes evenly and with precise force, no matter the material or wear level.
Real-time adjustment for higher yield
The system monitors pressure, position, and cavity contact in real time. It adjusts on the fly, reducing cycle time and extending mold life. The result is a more stable, efficient, and scalable process with less downtime and less waste.
Impact on sustainable manufacturing
This technology could benefit both small-batch prototyping and full-scale industrial production. By improving process control and product consistency, it supports the industry’s push toward more sustainable and cost-effective manufacturing methods.
