Texas Patent of the Month – November 2021
Hydration is incredibly important for every aspect of health, and periods of dehydration can have drastic effects on our overall well being. Most methods for monitoring hydration include keeping tabs on thirst, urine color, or sweat tests. THese are not always accurate though and rarely show a real-time analysis of hydration status as each of these would be impacted as a downstream effect. They also do not track a holistic hydration level as they may miss factors like plasma osmolality and so on.
Happy Health Inc. has developed a wearable tracker – like those that track your heart rate or steps and the like – which can track your hydration status. Their device uses a biomonitoring sensor to determine the baseline euhydrated state of the wear and monitor deviations from this baseline. This data is conveyed to the wearer through a hydration index, letting them know when they begin to deviate. The hydration index takes multiple factors into account (eg. height, age, gender, body mass index, etc.) when evaluating the appropriate hydration level. The biosensors include heart rate monitors, arterial blood saturation monitors, EKG monitors and more and track data such as core temperature, skint temperature, tissue water absorption, depth of breath, tissue oxygenation and more. This real-time biological data is processed and compared against the previously determined baseline.
Happy Health is focused on revolutionizing the wearables industry by leveraging AI, biometrics, and clinical sciences to improve what can be observed and tracked.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
