Utah Patent of the Month – April 2022

Most dogs love to go for a walk. For many dogs, this is the time they get to go explore and smell the fresh air outside of their own backyard. But as they age, they may not be able to go for a long walk. Or sometimes, they can’t keep up with the walk if it’s a particularly hard hike. But just because they can’t do the walk, doesn’t mean they don’t want to go. K9 Sport Sack, LLC has designed a backpack that safely lets you carry your dog with you.

In order to carry your pet on your back, they need to be properly supported so that their limbs aren’t positioned uncomfortably. K9 Sport Sack’s design allows a dog to sit comfortably in the backpack, with their head poking out of the top. Paw holes are also included near the head hole so that they can extend their front legs out and get a good stretch in. The backpack includes meshed material to create a source of airflow and keep the dog from overheating.

A platform panel is positioned at the bottom of the bag to provide a more solid support which the dog or pet can sit on. Ofcourse, dogs are different sizes, lengths, and weights. The platform is adjustable so that it can be raised or lowered to change the size of the backpack and the height of the interior. This ensures the dog can be positioned at the right spot to have their head comfortably through the top opening.

While the dog’s comfort is important, so is the owner’s. Carrying a dog in a backpack requires support to prevent strain on your back. They’ve added a padded hip belt to provide additional support. This way, the dog’s weight is more evenly dispersed across both your shoulders and your waist. Not only is your dog comfortable, you never have to leave your best friend behind.
