Utah Patent of the Month – May 2023

In the field of dentistry, researchers and clinicians are constantly seeking innovative ways to improve therapeutic procedures. One such advancement, developed by CAO Group, Inc, is the coupling of laser treatment with indocyanine green (ICG) to enhance disinfection and tissue ablation in endodontic therapy.

Root canal therapy requires the removal of necrotic tissue and the disinfection of the canal. Lasers are now commonplace in the procedure, offering improved ease of use and the potential to streamline current procedures. When using a laser, ICG dyes are used to absorb the laser’s wavelength. By matching the dye to the treatment laser’s output, a single laser can efficiently treat various surfaces without the need for multiple devices.

CAO Group’s novel approach delivers an alcohol-based ICG into the root canal. This method simultaneously enhances soft tissue penetration, improves water chasing efficiency, increases the staining of necrotic tissue, and augments the overall antimicrobial effect. Incorporating alcohols as a solvent in the ICG solutions increases the disinfection qualities and improves patient outcomes.

Thanks to their commitment to research and development, CAO Group is a national and international leader in manufacturing privately labeled products for the dental industry. They operate in a 60,000 sq. ft. FDA registered and ISO certified facility designed to support their R&D efforts, logistics, manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams.
